Making Evergreen Events this May Even Better

By. Craig Perrier

The start of May ushers in a series of “evergreen” events shared by educators across all types of schools. These annual events are embedded in the culture of our schools impacting students, teachers, and communities. I noticed these events moving into the spotlight with the uptick of posts in related social media groups I belong to.

For example, May is prime time for spring drama performances (I just saw The Sound of Music at one of our schools).  With summer break on the horizon, teachers switch to a faster gear to complete their curriculum.  This shift is balanced with review classes in order to prepare students for end of course state testing.  And speaking of testing, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate  exams, which can be used for college credit, are in full effect. Of course, graduation ceremonies in elementary, middle, and high schools mark the end to another great school year.

From the conversations happening in my school system, online, and with colleagues, I was inspired to turn to the Educator Marketplace  for ways to contribute to this year’s evergreen list. Check them out and make this May even brighter.

  • Drama Performances: Dramatists Play Services has a school library only discount! Save 20% off list price of any DPS Acting Edition. Also, Fun.com is the online destination for all things fun. We strive to provide products that are exciting, unusual, and hilarious, making our site a great place to find stand-out props for your performance.
  • Curriculum Completion:  Outschool has over 140,000 interactive online classes keep kids ages 3-18 engaged this year. Looking towards next school year,  At-A-Glance has academic planners help you stay organized and on top of important meetings, classwork, events and more.
  • Reviewing for Tests: It may not be the most exciting evergreen event, but test preparation alternatives from Learning Resources and Hand 2 Mind “may” make the difference between your students’ passing and failing.
  • Graduation Celebrations: Whether you want to add some food and drink to the party’s menu or get the perfect gift for your favorite student, you will find what you need at the marketplace!

What other annual May events are on your calendar?  I am sure your school and community have unique evergreen experiences not on this list. Have fun adding some new features to them with the Educator Marketplace  and make your mark on the season!
