Teaching Through Travel

By. Craig Perrier

Have you noticed the signs of Autumn popping up around you?  Last week I saw my first “Pumpkin Spice Coffee” billboard.  Halloween decorations are lining store counters and the start of football season is around the corner.  Combined with the start of school and the reality of summer’s end is a clear as a harvest moon.

With this transition comes a shift in life’s tempo and style; and opportunity! Without a doubt one of the most fun aspects of Autumn are the travel possibilities.  Where do you see yourself going in the next few months? Are you ready to plan a hike, apple picking, relax among some foliage, or visit a national park?  Even better, you can bring these Autumn possibilities to your classes. Some examples from colleagues who do this include asking students to plan a “dream trip”, research season changes that happen in nature, and design a hall of fame dedicated to historical events in history.

Regardless of whether you are thinking about your own Autumn adventures or want to celebrate the season with your students, the Educator Marketplace  has  fantastic deals to make this the best season ever.

The start of the school is filled with such an energy that is so unique.  It’s a mix of excitement, newness, and anticipation for a new beginning.  Capturing that feeling in your personal life or with your students in the classroom celebrates this special part of life. Enjoy!
