Honoring Teachers Every Day

By. Craig Perrier

Don’t you love that feeling when a student, or a student’s parent, shows their gratitude? The sentiment is expressed in many ways – a personalized email, call, and note, or gift card and present – to name a few. Certainly, this is one of the best experience educators have that is shared across school size, type, or location.

Recognizing educators for their work and impact should happen any day of the year. There are, however, specific times dedicated to honoring teachers. For example, “Teacher Appreciation Week” is celebrated in the first full week of May.  What’s more, a specific day during the week is, aptly named Teacher Appreciation Day, is described as “a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.”

Beyond, but inclusive of the United States, World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually  since 1994 on October 5th. Honoring all teachers around the globe, World Teachers’ Day includes delivery of the UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development, along with events showcasing how decent working conditions, access to professional development opportunities and recognition as professionals are steps towards improving and sustaining educational systems.

But, as the title of this blog indicates, every day is a perfect day to express your gratitude towards educators. This includes gestures of self-care and appreciation.  To do so, I suggest turning to the premier website dedicated to honoring the most under recognized profession – the Educator Marketplace  I hope my curated list below intrigues and inspires educators to celebrate themselves and for non-educators to remember teachers in their life – and then let them know you were thinking of them! Enjoy!
